Mary Huggins is an artist from Rome, Georgia

where she resides in her historic riverside home, the Moon River House, with her husband and 3 children.

Creative through various avenues her entire life, including writing, photography, and interior decorating, Mary first started painting as a personal catharsis and to fill her own home with original art. Painting quickly became a passion and obsession. Over the past 5 years, she has experimented with and evolved her methods to hone her unique style while studying under numerous professional working artists. She considers her art education self-curated rather than self-taught. You can now find her in the studio on a daily basis creating commission work and seasonal collection releases. Though the journey to becoming an artist has been a winding and unconventional one, she is grateful and honored everyday for the ability to tell a story through her art.

In my work, I long to create a shared sensory experience that compels people to come together and dialogue.

More than just a beautiful addition to your home, the pieces I create are full of symbolism and meaning. With a background in psychology, I long for my work to be a visual representation of emotion, mood, and personal story.

Living in a historic home by the Etowah River in North Georgia provides an idyllic backdrop for creativity for both my abstract and landscape pieces. The luscious oaks, blooming camellias, babbling river, and smooth flagstones create a romantic environment that have inspired many elements of my work.

The aqueous base layers, present in all of my work, are inspired by the flowing backyard river. The striped elements were first inspired by morning light streaming through the 100-year-old windows of Moon River and casting intricate shapes on opposing walls. The cursive-like marks are a signature playful addition. Each element and color is chosen to portray mood and story.
